Meet the Designer

ABOUT ZUEDI

Design With Culture.

I’m Zuedi—an interior designer, creative director and founder of DesignsByZuedi®. I was born in Kingston, Jamaica and raised in New York City, and both places have shaped the way I see design.

Jamaica gave me an appreciation for color, hospitality, craftsmanship, natural materials, indoor-outdoor living and the idea that a home is meant to be shared. New York taught me to see the possibilities in architecture, art, fashion and the many different ways people create identity through their surroundings.

Together, those influences became the foundation of my design perspective.

But when I design a home, I don't begin with a style. I begin with the people who live there.

How do you gather?
Where do you rest?
What do you want to preserve?
What brings you joy?
What should your home say about the life you're building?

Those questions matter to me just as much as furniture, color and finishes.

Because a beautiful room is one thing. A home that feels like you is something else entirely.

MY APPROACH TO DESIGN

Contemporary design. Cultural intelligence. Homes with identity.

My work brings together contemporary interiors, thoughtful space planning, expressive color, natural materials, craftsmanship, art and cultural intelligence.

I love beautiful things, but I don't believe a beautiful home is created simply by filling it with more things. Sometimes the answer is a new piece of furniture. Sometimes it's oving the furniture you already own. And sometimes the problem isn't the decorating at all—the architecture or flow of the room needs to be reconsidered.

That is why my approach is always intentional.

Proportion before furniture.
Flow before filling.
Light before color.
Lifestyle before materials.
Identity before trends.

The goal is not simply to make the room look better. The goal is to make the home make sense.

CULTURE IS DESIGN INTELLIGENCE.

My Afro-Caribbean heritage naturally informs the way I think about interiors. It influences my relationship with color, hospitality, gathering, craftsmanship, pattern, climate, natural materials and the connection between indoor and outdoor life.

But culturally informed design doesn’t ave to become themed, nostalgic or literal. I am much more interested in asking:

How can heritage inform contemporary living?

A room can carry cultural memory while still feeling modern.

A traditional material can take on a new form.

An inherited object can live beside contemporary furniture.

A pattern can reference history without reproducing the past.

And a home can honor where you come from while still making room for where you're going.

For me, culture is design intelligence—not decoration.

THE BLACK HOME™

Joy. Rest. Love. Wealth. Legacy.

One of the philosophies at the heart of my work is The Black Home™.

It began with a belief I return to again and again:

The Black home doesn't have to perform trauma.

Our homes can tell stories about what happened before us without being defined only by struggle.

They can also tell stories about the lives we are creating now.

JOY

Home should make room for pleasure, celebration, beauty, laughter and the things that simply make us happy.

REST

Home should offer sanctuary—a place where the body and mind are allowed to soften.

LOVE

Design should support connection: dinners that stretch late into the evening, conversations in the living room, family rituals, friendship and everyday moments together.

WEALTH

Our environments can reflect investment, ownership, quality, aspiration and the confidence to create spaces worthy of the lives being built inside them.

LEGACY

Homes hold memory. Art, furniture, craftsmanship, traditions and meaningful objects can carry a family's story from one generation to another.

The Black Home™ is not a decorating style. It's  way of thinking about what home can represent.

FROM MY STUDIO TO YOUR HOME

DesignsByZuedi® has grown beyond individual interior design projects, but everything I create still comes from the same design philosophy.

Through Design Services, I help clients solve rooms and transform homes.

Through The Room Prescription™, I diagnose what isn't working before you spend more money trying to fix it.

Through Build Your Edit™, I help you put together coordinated pieces with a designer's eye.

Through the Shop, I curate and create objects, textiles, art, patterns and pieces I believe can add something meaningful to a home—including my own Jamaican Toile™ designs.

And through the Journal, I explore color, materials, cultural history, interiors, design futures and the ideas shaping the way we live.

A HOME WITH IDENTITY.

I don't want to create rooms that could belong to anyone.

I want to create homes where your history, rituals, personality, collections, ambitions and future have somewhere to belong.

Homes that invite people to pull up another chair.

Homes that make rest feel important.

Homes where beautiful objects aren't simply displayed—they become part of everyday life.

Homes that feel like someone lives there.

Your home does not have to look like everyone else's idea of luxury.

It should tell us something about you.

And that is the kind of home I want to help you create.
